SESSIONAL LECTURER POSTINGS

We also hire faculty into term appointments for a specified period of time for courses taught in the Department of Chemistry. Sessional lecturers teach and/or perform related duties, including course coordination or lab supervision, for a period of less than 12 months.

Students

Teaching Assistants and Markers

Each academic year the Department of Chemistry has openings for Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs), Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UTAs), Assistant TAs (ATAs), and lecture Markers for chemistry courses.  Full-time (average of 12 hours/week) and part-time positions are available.

Teaching Assistant / Marker duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Instruction in labs
  • Marking assignments, labs, and exams
  • Exam invigilation
  • Academic assistance to students during office hours
  • Discussion sessions, tutorials and lectures

Additionally, applications are open for the following:

  • Chem 121 and Chem 123 lead TA (team lead)
  • Undergraduate student technicians
  • BIOC 393 TAs can apply on biology.ok.ubc.ca

Good grades and understanding of the subject material required. Preference given to Graduate students or undergraduates majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry with at least 4th year standing are eligible for TA positions. ATA-Markers must have at least 3rd year standing. Excellent students from other relevant disciplines are also welcome. Qualified applicants enrolled as full-time students at UBCO (taking a minimum of 24 credits over two terms) will have priority. Graduate students must have approval from their research supervisors to apply.

The exact hours of these positions vary, but will not exceed 12 hours per week, for a maximum 384 hours Sept 1, 2024 – April 30, 2025 (considered full-time). Wages for all positions align with the current BCGEU Collective Agreement. Learn more.

Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled; however, applications received before April 30 will be given priority consideration.

All positions are subject to budgetary approval and are based on enrolment and lab sections.
